The day before yesterday was a holiday called “Kathara Deftera”.
Kathara Deftera marks the beginning of Sarakostee and the end of his Apocryes.
Sarakostee is a 40-day fast, until Easter. But nowadays Greeks only refrain from meat and milk products.
Apocryes is a festival like Halloween.
On Kathara Deftera Day, we eat lots of seafood such as squids and octopuses and we fly kites.
So I did that with my family.
We also eat a cake called Halvas.
Also, instead of ordinary bread, a special bread called Lagana is sold and everyone buys it that day. The taste is almost the same, but a little different. I don’t know the recipe.
It was really fun! !! !!
